OMG! Are we looking at the same image? It doesn't look made. It looks like it was found in a dumpster!

I ask you to answer this honestly.

If you had never seen that image before, and found the actual item in a trashcan out in the street of a rough neighborhood, would it even enter your mind to consider that object as "art"?

I would bet large amounts of money that 99% of passers by would be afraid to even touch it!

Bravo! I was waiting to find out how long it would take for someone to see that my "ART" was nothing but actual real garbage! It is indeed dryer lint, dumped onto an upside down plastic tray from an Acme party platter!

Actually, I was hoping you were a troll.

I'm the one who made the "high-minded" comment.

See, I go to an art school, so I have to deal with this type of thing every day. I'm so weary of art-fags and Marcel Duchamp wannabes. The sad thing is that the wannabes don't even know who Duchamp is. They think the Great White-Wigged Faggot is the first one to troll the art world.

Mostly, I'm tired of the ones who don't realize that they're being trolled, and really, wholeheartedly believe that the shit (sometimes literally) they are being fed is "true art". What a crock.

Why don't I leave? Sadly, because what I want to be requires I go to this school.

I'll tell you what TRUE art is.

TRUE Art as you call it is "beauty and wonder in the eye of the creator and in the eye of the beholder"

So TRUE Art can be whatever you want as long as it was made for creativity's sake rather than for attention and money and aslong as someone gains pleasure from viewing it. Personally, my favourite piece of TRUE Art is life, for it iso intricate and complex.

But yeah, all you money-grubbing, pretentious bastards can take your emotional expression seen in dirty bedsheets and cracks in the floor to hell with you untill you can come up with an idea purely for the fact that you like it, K? No-one is interested in how "DEEP" you can be, just how creative you can be! By creative, I don't mean with adjectives to describe your dot on a page, I mean with something that you truly enjoyed making just because you could!

This european art museum just bought one of famous surreal artist's works. It was a dark room. Literally, it was just a room with lights off, and the artist told it symbolises the meaning of life. Thats it.

Years ago, in the city of Philadelphia, i was asked to leave a small art gallery due to my excessive laughter. I swear this is true, buy the way. I saw the 'ART" with my own eyes, and couldn't stop laughinga at it!!!

The two featured pieces that had me in hysterics were:

(1) A large number of portable TVs arranged in a semi-circle on the floor. They were all on, displaying static via screen and speakers. There were a couple of clothing store type mannequins
(Not sculptures or statues. They were the mass produced mannequins you see in stores like The Gap!)
The mannequins were sitting down facing the screens as if watching them..

(2) A photograph of an intact egg, pristine in it's gleaming uncracked shell. The egg was sitting on a featureless white plate, with a featureless white surface, that blended seamlessly into a featureless white background. The white was all the exact same shade, and lit in such a way that there was no visible shadow.. oddly enough, the 'ARTIST' used color film!!!

Thinking about it still makes me grin!

More about the egg art and TV art. I don't consider it art if ANYONE can EXACTLY replicate it in a matter of minutes, even if they have no artistic talent! I mean, really! A freakin' egg sitting on a shiny white plate? I can make an exact duplicate picking up all materials at the Dollar Store, for God's sake!

One trip to the flea market, armed with a fifty dollar bill would be enough for the TV piece!

Someone mentioned the "Dark Room" I actually own that! I have a room upstairs in my house that has nothing in it. I put cardboard over the windows to keep it from getting like an oven in the summer. It's pitch black dark, 24-7!!!

Where's my gallery showing?!?!?!?!?

But did you do any of that? No.
Why don't you quit your bitching and actually try to make some art and get it into a gallery or museum, if it's that easy
Are we all Shakespeares if we know how to speak English? Sure, maybe we're capable of stringing a couple sentences of Hamlet together, we're familiar with all the terms. But did we do it first? No.
If you want to argue about what exactly art is, don't go throwing out that timeless, idiotic statement "I could have done that." The definition of art is actually an interesting topic, so come up with a more intelligent way to talk about it.

No need to call names or start DRAMA.

Sage is not an insult, only if you believe it is.
Sage's only function is make a post not bump. If I deem my post off-topic, like yours and my own, I would rather not make it bump the thread OR if I deem the thread stupid or off-topic,Ii would rather not bump it to the top of the page, but rather hope it would sink down to the bottom by itself.

I really don't understand why people think sage is some kind of insult. Maybe because they come straight from /b/ or something.

Art ... Whatever the artist and his/her willing accomplices can con a gulible public into thinking is creative. In an art museum at our capital, there was an artwork of a waffle, with a little microphone in it, making farting noises.

>>71132

Most of that surreal art is fine, but you can easily see how much effort has been put into one work, and how little on something else. Also, you cannot simply claim a "dark room" is your latest artwork, just because you saw the red string in the essence of a dark room, and made up some shitty explanation on how artsy one dark room is.

Thats where "I could have done that" applies. And people SHOULD say that in an art gallery. I could easily create same quality art by taking a shit on top of a pikachu-doll, and then say its meant to symbolise the quality of our current media. And that would be on the same par on effort as the "dark room", and any other shitty artworks like that.

In such artwork, artists are just lazy, and they rely on their fame/notoriety to do their work for them. Thats an insult for all those who actually put many hours of effort into their art.

Thing is, I do art as a hobby, so I have something to say on that. Lot more to say than you.

And effort is not always measured with time put unto the artwork. Usually you can easily see how much effort has been put to an artwork. Artists should always remember that they are there to serve the viewers, they are responsible for delivering the image and symbolism for the viewer. Being egoistic and giving the responsibility to the viewer is just childish. Go ask Conceptart.org if you dont believe me.

Well, you havent shown any of your work. Plus the way how effort is being shown, how and what you can critisize varies in each medium.
